Verbs:-5; Rules For Using Of Them.

On my previous articles I was writing many things about the verbs. Types of verbs, their uses and also some of the rules. Today, here I am going to writing more rules about the verbs. Before, opening this article you should know all about my previous articles related to the verbs. If you are going through my previous articles regarding the verbs, then this article is influencing your study of the verbs. I hope you all able to understanding my view here. Other rules, I am providing here which are also very vital to know about the verbs.

Rule:-4. In case of two subjects which are joining with “as well as” the verb agrees with the first subject. Following examples are helping you to understanding my statement best.
Examples:-(i) Teacher as well as the students is studying in the class.
(ii) Students as well as their teacher are studying in the class.

In the case of the first sentence the verb ‘is’ agrees with teacher and in the second sentence the verb ‘are’ agrees with the students.

Rule:-5; ‘Neither’, ‘Either’, ‘Every’, ‘Each’, ‘Everyone’, and ‘Many a’ are followed by the singular verb. Following examples are helping you all to know about my statement.
Examples:- (i) Neither of the two children is good at mathematics.
(ii) Either of my method is adopted by my students.
(iii) Every student is expected to be obedient.
(iv) Each of them is able to handle the mathematics best.
(v) Everyone of them is desires the best result.
(vi) Many a person was affected with the flood. etc.

Rule:-6; If two subjects are joined by “Either…..or”, “Neither…..nor” the verb agrees with the subject near to it. Following examples are helping you all lot for understanding my statement.
Examples:- (i) Neither Tanvi nor Dhruvi is doing this question.
(ii) Either of my two students or I am to do that work.

In the first example we find that verb ‘is’ agrees with Dhruvi similarly in the second sentence the verb ‘am’ agrees with I because I is immediate before it.

Rule:-7; A noun singular in form and collective in sense takes a singular verb. Following examples are clearing about this statement.
Examples:-(i) The committee gives it’s final decision about the case.
Normally when there is oneness in action, the verb is singular but when there is diversity and every member of the collective noun has to be mentioned the verb used is plural. For example:- (ii) The jury were providing their decisions differently. To be continue:-
